Our Head Chef, Scott Fairweather, leads a talented team of chefs at The Black Swan. We produce a locally sourced, seasonal Cumbrian menu which offers something for everyone and which we are very proud of. We strive for excellence in everything we do as well as being creative in our offering to guests and diners.
The strong relationship we have built with out local producers is incredibly important to us. This allows us to ensure we can deliver the best ingredients to you in our own unique way.
All of our food is freshly prepared to order . This means we are able to cater for special dietary requirements, food allergies and offer alternative vegan options. Please don’t hesitate to contact us prior to your visit with any of the above and we will be able to accommodate.
Monday: 12-3 and 5.30- 8.30
Tuesday: Residents only from the start of September 5.30-8.30
Wednesday: 12-3 and 5.30-8.30

Due to current guidelines our premises will close at 10pm sharp.
Our dinner serving times have been changed to accommodate this.
The bar is open every day for drinkers to join us.
On Tuesdays residents can order from our a la carte in September then our cold platter menu from October.

On Tuesdays our kitchen is closed for non-residents from September. Residents are still able to order from our a la carte throughout September then our cold platter menu will begin in October. Please call for more information. Our bar is still open.

We enjoy partnering our desserts with an appropriate cocktail or wine to compliment and enhance your dining experience. We offer seasonal cocktails to enjoy during your visit.
Over recent years we have built a reputation for our real cask ales resulting in being featured in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide ‘every year since our inaugural year’. We have also been awarded the Cask Marque certificate for quality ales.
We source all of our Cask Ales locally and offer a wide selection of quality, lovingly cared for, cask beers, along with great lagers and ciders both bottled and on draught. An impressive range of gins, vodkas and malt whiskies are also available, including some new local Cumbrian brands.
We work closely with our local suppliers to ensure we take advantage of the freshest produce on a daily basis.These are our food heroes...
Founded in 1945 by Bill McClure, the company is now in the hands of the third generation of McClure’s. After more than 70 years they still have the same passion and drive to deliver good quality service to Cumbria’s food & drink scene. McClure’s deliver fresh fruit & vegetables to us every single morning as well as dry goods & almost anything we need or ask for to create our daily menu. Seasonal products are provided the minute they are available by the wonderful Ben Galloway who caters for our every need.
Neves, Fleetwood have been supplying fresh fish to the North West for over 30 years, going back three generations to when its founders Chris and Gerrard Neve began going door-to-door, selling fish to local markets and restaurants. Dominic & Tara ensure we are provided with the days freshest catch, including Scottish cod loin, monkfish tails & salmon & haddock from their local smokehouse.
Lakes speciality foods, Staveley
Andy at Lakes speciality foods works hard to find the best products which suit our seasonally changing menu & offers advice on different cuts as well as breed of animal in relation to flavour. He delivers our fresh meat daily & is very enthusiastic about our ever-evolving food offering. Appearing on our menu is their own dry-cured bacon, free range Cumberland sausages, Eden valley venison, Lakeland Lamb, Beef topside for our Sunday roast.... the list goes on!

The Cheese Larder, Kendal
In response to an increasing demand from local restaurants, the sister company of Lakes Speciality made the decision in 2005 to concentrate on quality cheese supplies. Based just North of Kendal town centre, the business has grown quickly due to providing excellent customer service, quality products and extensive knowledge. Jonathan speaks passionately about our ever-changing cheese selection & constantly passes on his recommendations & ideas.
High Helbeck Shoot
Ed supplies our pheasants fresh from his shoot at the Helbeck estate, just north of Brough, only 30 minutes down the road. He is shooting 3 days per week until the end of January & delivers as & when we require, giving us just enough time to hand pluck & prepare the birds.
