Dining at the Black Swan

black swan aa 2 rosettesOur Head Chef, Scott Fairweather leads a talented team of chefs, producing a local Cumbrian menu which offers something for everyone. From the Kitchen, Scott and his team offer freshly prepared locally sourced food, which is driven by seasonality.  Our aim is to provide something for everybody on a menu which is creatively put together and inspired by our pub surroundings.

We are proud to have built strong relationships with some of Cumbria’s best producers who ensure we can deliver the best ingredients in our own unique way.

All of our food is freshly made which enables us to cater for all special dietary requirements and food allergies along with alternative vegetarian options.

Bar

Over recent years we have built a reputation for our real cask ales resulting in being featured in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide ‘every year since our inaugural year’. We have also been awarded the Cask Marque certificate for quality ales.

We source all of our Cask Ales locally and offer a wide selection of quality, lovingly cared for, cask beers, along with great lagers and ciders both bottled and on draught. An impressive range of gins, vodkas and malt whiskies are also available, including some new local Cumbrian brands.

Menu Sourcing

We work closely with our local suppliers to ensure we take advantage of the freshest produce on a daily basis. These are our food heroes...

Mcclures, Windermere
Founded in 1945 by Bill McClure, the company is now in the hands of the third generation of McClures. After more than 70 years they still have the same passion and drive to deliver good quality service to Cumbria’s food & drink scene. Mcclures deliver fresh fruit & vegetables to us every single morning as well as dry goods & almost anything we need or ask for to create our daily menu. Seasonal products are forced upon us the minute they are available.

Neves, Fleetwood
Neves Fleetwood have been supplying fresh fish to the North West for over 30 years, going back three generations to when it’s founders Chris and Gerrard Neve began going door-to-door, selling fish to local markets and restaurants. They ensure we are provided with local fresh crab meat, Scottish cod loin & mussels, haddock and also wild Morecambe bay fish when in season.

Eden Valley, Penrith
Mark at Eden Valley Meats works hard to find the best products to suit our seasonally changing menu & offers advice on different cuts as well as breed of animal in relation to flavour. He delivers our fresh meat on a daily basis & is very enthusiastic about our ever evolving food offering. Appearing on our menu is Barbary duck, aged beef Ribeye, top quality sausages, local wild game, free range pork....the list goes on!

Lovingly Artisan, Kendal
Aiden Monks bakes our bread daily in his Oxenholme railway station bakery. He is extremely passionate about bringing old sour dough techniques & flavours into the 21st century & the products are constantly developing. Aiden's business has pure quality at the heart of everything they do, leading him to become well established within a competitive industry on a national level.

Courtyard Dairy, Settle
The Courtyard Dairy was created in 2012 by Andy & Kathy Swinscoe with the ethos to sell only the best cheese available from the British Isles to champion and support the few remaining independent farmhouse cheese-makers. Soon after opening, they won 'The Best New Cheese Retailer' at the 2013 British Cheese Awards, ‘Best Cheese Counter’ and ‘Cheese monger of The Year’ at The World Cheese Awards 2013; and runner-up in BBC Radio 4 Food and Farming Awards 2014 ‘Best Food Retailer’ and Observer Food Monthly Awards 2015.
